Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and blueprints.

  • Prepare comprehensive cost estimates for plumbing and mechanical systems including labor, materials, and equipment.

  • Evaluate job sites and project scopes to ensure accurate bid development.

  • Source and analyze quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to optimize cost efficiency.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and general contractors.

  • Work closely with project managers and engineers to create competitive proposals.

  • Identify potential project risks and help devise mitigation strategies related to budget, schedule, or compliance.

  • Participate in bid review meetings, contract negotiations, and project handoffs.

  • Keep up to date with changes in materials pricing, industry trends, and market conditions.

  • Ensure all estimates comply with applicable building codes and industry standards.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical estimating, preferably within HVAC or plumbing trades

  • High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred

  • Familiarity with estimating software such as FastPIPE, QuickPen, Trimble, or Bluebeam; knowledge of ProCore or ComputerEase is a plus

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and local building codes

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and construction plans

  • Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates concurrently

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
