We are seeking a dedicated Legal Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide support to attorneys with a focus on litigation, employment law, and corporate transactional.
*Responsibilities*
Assist with keeping cases organized from start to finish by establishing and organizing digital files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines and documenting actions.
Inputting information into file database and case management software; confirming case status with attorneys.
Preparing and forwarding summonses and subpoenas; assisting in preparation of discovery requests and responses; preparing responses to opposing counsel; drafting correspondence; generating status reports.
Supports case preparation by preparing case summaries and materials for mediation conferences; monitoring discovery responses; and organizing materials for team case review.
Assist with general aspects of document productions (redacting, copying, scanning, bates stamping)
Enhance trial proceedings by organizing, analyzing, and indexing documents; preparing exhibits; and scheduling.
Assist with document review and preparation of document productions (i.e. witness kits, privilege logs, digests, indices, trial and arbitration binders)
Prepare case books utilizing Westlaw, and utilize other research services, as needed.
E-file court documents using PACER or other electronic court systems.
Scheduling services related to courier, process of service, depositions, administrative hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
Stay up to date with job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications, etc.
Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Other legal support duties as assigned by Attorneys and the Director of Operations.
*Requirements*
Minimum 2 years experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal is preferred.
Proficiency in legal case management software like Westlaw and Logikcull
Strong Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote) and Adobe.
Knowledge of the local state (Fairfax, Arlington, Loudoun, and Montgomery Counties) and federal (EDVA, D.C., Maryland) court systems and filings
Ability to type 70+ words per minute.
Must be able to effectively multi-task, manage time-sensitive documents, and have exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with attorneys, staff, and clients.
Professional appearance and demeanor.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Spanish speaking preferred but not required.
Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
