Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support the Corporate Controller in managing the organization's financial affairs, ensuring accuracy in financial records, and contributing to financial reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate will play a key role in maintaining accounting controls, assisting with budget and forecasting, overseeing the accounting staff, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. This role requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of GAAP, and the ability to lead and collaborate across departments.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting: Assisting with the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Budgeting and Forecasting: Participating in the creation of company budgets and financial forecasts.
Internal Controls: Establishing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
Compliance: Ensuring adherence to accounting legislation, standards, and regulations.
Financial Analysis: Performing variance analysis and other financial analyses to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Audit Support: Assisting with the planning and execution of external and internal audits.
Process Improvement: Identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
General Ledger Management: Managing the general ledger and ensuring accurate recording of transactions.
Accounts Receivable/Payable: Overseeing accounts receivable and accounts payable processes.
Payroll: Reviewing payroll processing and related tasks.
Staff Supervision: Supervising accounting staff and providing training and guidance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; construction/percentage of completion accounting experience a plus.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, Sage, Oracle).
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large datasets.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience managing or mentoring staff.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of e-commerce tax regulations and compliance.
Experience with WIP and percentage of completion entries
Previous experience with tax audits or handling state tax inquiries.
Prior experience in a multi-state or national organization
Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
Comfortable working in a dynamic and evolving environment.
A proactive mindset and a team-first attitude.
Work Environment
Full-time position in an office environment.
Salary: $100-$125k
