What You’ll Do:
The Technical Manager will support the technical management of Triton’s assets and container fleet to ensure that repair estimates and methodologies are implemented at Triton’s high standards and expectations. This position will contribute to the container maintenance/management and technical costs in the assigned region as part of the overall operating costs budget. Key responsibilities include:
- Investigate technical/maintenance and repair costs with the goal to drive down Triton’s operating costs. Specifically this goal should include reducing maintenance and repair costs on Refrigerated, Dry van, Dry special and Tank equipment.
- Control the European + African depots’ estimation process to ensure accuracy and timeliness. Specifically:
- Improve estimate accuracy to achieve a maximum error rate of 5% of estimate value.
- Improve estimate speed to achieve a maximum of 2 days for dry vans/ dry specials and 5 days for Reefers, from unit acceptance to estimate completion.
- Manage/solve the disputes between Triton, our customers and depots and set a procedure to reduce future disputes.
- Handle customer inquiries and technical issues.
- Visit depots for audit and inspection of Triton’s equipment (including dry vans, specials, chassis, gensets, and refrigerated containers), conducting regular checks and audits on vendor services.
- Administer the 3rd party depot audit and survey partners within the assigned region. This responsibility will include the following:
- Build a working relationship with the 3rd party.
- Review on a regular basis the audits of our depot vendors, both in terms of on going results and in terms of actual physical audit results;
- Be available to accompany field inspectors during their surveys and their audits;
- Assist 3rd party inspectors in the on-going training and management of the maintenance and repair process within the depots.
- Be the final point of call in dispute management.
- Visit depots in the assigned region and meet with the 3rd party surveyors during your active inspections in the depots and proactively post results into Triton’s management information system repository.
- Liaise between the Senior Technical manager and the field (regional offices/depots/3rd party inspectors) with regards to any procedural changes, updates, technical bulletins, etc. disseminating the relevant information accordingly.
- Be available when necessary to assist Triton marketing personnel in their dealings with customers on specific technical issues.
- Monitor and manage depot’s performance such as Maintenance and Repair (“M&R”) Cycle time and M&R average costs and exceptions.
- Manage operational costs incurred with third party vendors; including negotiating rates for services.
- Coordinate depot addition and removal in conjunction with senior management, review and training of new depot to ensure compliance with all regulatory and company procedure.
- Gather, evaluate and distribute local depot situation and competitive information to relevant departments as required.
- Implementation of M&R policies and requirements; establish/distribute/clarify maintenance and repair standards.
- Handle TriFleet (Triton ERP): Equipment Disposition and the equipment sell/fix decisions in conjunction with Marketing and Triton Container Sales (“TCS”).
What We’re Looking For:
- Five to seven years of experience with container construction (reefer and dry) methods and components, vendor management, and container surveying required.
- IICL5 estimate and repair guidelines for dry vans and dry specials required.
- IICL4 estimate and repair guidelines for refrigerated containers required.
- Technical and administrative knowledge of working container depot preferred.
- Fluency in English, French, German and Dutch preferred.
- Creative negotiating skills and the ability to develop innovative yet simple pricing structures is necessary in this role
- Willing to travel frequently, sometimes at short notice; 25-35% travel required per month
- Must be at a commutable distance (within 50 miles) to the Antwerp office.
- Willingness to work outside regular office hours as reasonably required by the business.
