Trystar’s team members are our most important asset, we are in search of a
Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our team (Burnsville, MN; Faribault, MN; Houston, TX; Charlotte, NC; Pointe-Claire, CA). As part of the engineering team, the Staff Mechanical Engineer will see products from the engineering prototype phase to series production. You will be responsible for the design and development of new technology offerings within the Research, Development, & Engineering - Power Distribution team. This includes power distribution equipment, power test equipment, temporary back-up power products, and energy storage technologies. In this role you will get to:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Define, design, prototype, validate, develop, commercialize, and support a range of products including loadbanks, temporary generator docking stations, UL-891-compliant switchboards, UL-1558-compliant switchgear, automatic transfer switches, and more.
- Define and document mechanical requirements and best practices for enclosures of power distribution systems.
- Influence product design standards and design reuse and drive compliance with industry standards across the enterprise.
- Platform and optimize designs for design efficiency, scalability, manufacturability, and cost-efficiency.
- Lead mechanical design efforts across a range of new technology initiatives.
- Lead root-cause investigations.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to design engineers, test technicians, fabrication, and assembly personnel.
Job Requirements:
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent.
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical product design.
- Proficiency with mechanical CAD software such as SolidWorks or others.
- Experience with the design of switchgear or switchboard products compliant with UL891, UL1558, or similar standards.
- Proven ability to define mechanical specifications for enclosures intended for seismic-rated, environmental-resistance, and thermal applications.
- Experience with the creation of detailed technical product documentation to support product manufacturing, functional testing, certification testing, and customer requests.
- Ability to specify and design for safe and effective manufacturing practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders.
Additional Qualifications
- NFPA 70E Certification.
- Experience with UL508, UL1008, UL9540, and others.
- Experience with ERP, PLM, and Engineering Vault software.
- Experience with energy storage systems for critical infrastructure.
- Experience with switchgear/switchboard design.
- Experience with cabinet, racking, or other enclosure design.
- Experience with structural analysis, thermal analyses, and seismic simulations.
- Experience with HVAC design.
- Position may require up to 20% travel within North America.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to define and lead implementation of new Trystar product design standards.
