Summary

Cox Consulting Network has been retained by an established, growing, privately held company with an excellent corporate culture in its search for a Staff Accountant. The position is hybrid (with two days/week in office) and is based in Austin, TX



OPPORTUNITY

The Staff Accountant will report to the Assistant Controller for this Austin headquartered company. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for various aspects of general ledger accounting, including preparation of monthly reports, commission processing, ledger entry and reconciliations.


The ideal candidate will have general ledger accounting experience, strong attention to detail, and be a collaborative team player. This is a great position for anyone looking for a company to learn and grow with.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare billings and initiates commission checks for multiple insurance companies including managing general agents and retail agents’ workers compensation commissions.
  • Perform account analysis and reconciliation for both balance sheet and expense ledger accounts for various companies.
  • Record both monthly and standard journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Prepares and posts general ledger entries for all cash transactions for bank accounts of certain companies including the monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Assist in other monthly close procedures.
  • Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information.
  • Performs other administrative, accounting functions and back-up responsibilities as required and completes special projects as needed.


REQUIREMENTS

  • BA in Accounting
  • 1 – 3 years of experience in Accounting, preferably full-cycle
  • Experience with month-end closing
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access database skills
  • Must have strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Technical experience in accounting software programs
  • Accounting procedures on both manual and automated systems
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and to communicate effectively with vendors, financial institution representatives, policyholders, etc.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, self-starter, innovative, high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to identify problems and discrepancies, independently perform research and analysis of causes, and recommend corrective actions
  • Effective interpersonal skills along with very good problem-solving skills
  • Strong work ethis
