Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
The Biomedical Informatics Research Analyst will work with study teams and stakeholders across the VCU research enterprise to provide informatics support for biomedical research. Primary responsibilities include querying relational databases (i.e. Electronic Health Records (EHR), insurance claims) to create datasets for research and communicating with study teams to collect requirements and validate results. Other responsibilities include peer reviewing other analysts' work, ensuring HIPAA/regulatory compliance, developing technical infrastructure to support research informatics, and consulting with study teams about research pathways. Ideal candidates will be intrinsically motivated self-starters, eager to learn, do hard things, and accept critical feedback to improve performance.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in a field related to healthcare or information technology or equivalent work experience
* At least two years professional experience querying, analyzing, and wrangling biomedical data using SQL
* Able to quickly manipulate (i.e. join, filter, pivot, etc) tables to curate datasets without referencing technical documentation
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Able to clearly and concisely translate requirements and limitations between technical and non-technical personnel
* Demonstrated competence organizing complex information in a clear and concise manner
* Able to independently lead all aspects of a complex data request from collecting requirements, verifying HIPAA/regulatory compliance, and curating the dataset via SQL.
Preferred Qualifications
* Epic certifications relevant to clinical reporting (Cogito, Clarity, Caboodle, Cosmos)
* Professional experience using non-SQL programming languages to manipulate data (i.e. Python, R)
* Experience with big healthcare data (i.e. EHR, insurance claims)
* Experience supporting clinical research teams
* Experience employing project management strategies to manage workload Basic understanding of statistical analysis in clinical research
