THE ROLE
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Security Engineer to safeguard the security of our Giga Shanghai factory operations. This role focuses on securing manufacturing systems, industrial control systems (ICS), and robotics, ensuring a resilient and seamless manufacturing environment. At Tesla, we are committed to building "a machine that builds a machine," making robust security essential. The Manufacturing Security Engineer will work closely with OT, manufacturing teams, and InfoSec to identify risks, ensure timely remediation, and support secure manufacturing operations.
We are looking for someone with in-depth knowledge of KUKA and FANUC robotic security standards, expertise in firmware management and updates, and extensive experience working with Siemens, Beckhoff, and Rockwell PLCs. The ideal candidate will be experienced in Claroty's OT security platform to monitor and protect industrial networks and manufacturing infrastructure. This role requires a skilled engineer who can bridge the gap between manufacturing security and operations, ensuring a robust security posture throughout Giga Shanghai’s systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform security assessments and risk analysis of manufacturing systems, ICS infrastructure, and robotics at Giga Shanghai.
- Utilize Claroty to run vulnerability scans, identify risks, and proactively secure OT environments without disrupting operations.
- Lead patch management processes and firmware updates for KUKA, FANUC, Siemens, Beckhoff, and Rockwell devices.
- Collaborate with control engineers to secure robotic systems and ensure compliance with industry security standards.
- Monitor Siemens, Beckhoff, and Rockwell PLCs to detect anomalies and address vulnerabilities.
- Work closely with the Incident Response team to manage and mitigate threats specific to manufacturing operations.
- Maintain secure configurations of critical manufacturing devices, ensuring the integrity of PLCs, HMIs, and other industrial devices.
- Lead system hardening efforts, focusing on robotics and industrial networks.
- Collaborate with Tesla’s engineering teams to integrate security into new factories, lines, and robotic installations.
- Participate in threat modeling exercises and implement best practices for OT security.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in OT security, manufacturing security, or ICS/SCADA environments.
- Hands-on experience with KUKA and FANUC robotic security standards and firmware management processes.
- Expertise in Siemens, Beckhoff, and Rockwell PLCs and their security configurations.
- Extensive experience with Claroty’s OT security platform for monitoring and securing manufacturing systems.
- Familiarity with OT-specific protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profinet) and best practices for secure network design in manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency with scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash) to automate security processes.
- Experience working with patch management tools and vulnerability management frameworks for manufacturing systems.
- Strong knowledge of incident response processes and experience working with SIEM tools (Splunk preferred).
- Relevant security certifications (e.g., Security+, CISSP, CEH, or SANS) are a plus.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across manufacturing, OT, and security teams to enhance security alignment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of Tesla’s global security strategy, directly contributing to the secure operation of Giga Shanghai’s factory systems. Join us in building the future of manufacturing security while safeguarding the production of revolutionary Tesla products.
