Job Description

The Retail Store Technology team is seeking a Solution Architect for a consulting engagement aimed at documenting and formalizing the API integration framework across all store technologies and third-party systems. The scope includes ecosystem mapping, governance, and current-state architecture documentation within the retail technology environment. If time allows, the engagement may also involve initial discussions around future-state architecture.

This role will lay the foundation for a permanent Solution Architect to assume ongoing ownership and management.

Primary Responsibilities:

API Ecosystem Mapping & Governance

• Discover, document, and map all existing APIs (internal and third-party) consumed by store systems.
• Create a centralized and accessible API repository/catalog.
• Define and promote API consumption standards and best practices.
• Establish communication channels with peer API owners to align roadmaps and represent store system needs.

Architecture Definition

• Document the current (“as-is”) architecture of the store technology stack, including integrations and dependencies.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to design the future (“to-be”) target architecture aligned with business objectives and technical strategy.

Key Deliverables

• Comprehensive API catalog for store system interactions.
• Documentation of API standards and best practices.
• Established communication protocols with key peer teams.
• Detailed "as-is" system architecture.
• Proposed "to-be" architecture roadmap.
• Knowledge transfer sessions and documentation for seamless transition to a permanent hire.

Required Skills

• Expertise in APIs (REST, SOAP, GraphQL, etc.)
• Knowledge of integration patterns and architectural best practices
• Broad understanding of systems (retail, cloud, databases, security)
• Strong documentation and modeling capabilities
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Strategic and analytical thinking

Experience

• Proven experience in Solution Architecture roles
• API governance and architectural framework experience
• Background in retail systems is a plus
• Strong track record working with cross-functional teams and external vendors

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture initiatives from inception to completion
• Collaborate with business users to create architecture in alignment with business need
• Act as a technical subject matter expert for business users
• Champion the adoption of reusable architecture assets to improve efficiency
• Produce documentation to aid in the understanding of existing architecture solutions

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics
• 5+ years' of relevant experience
• Advanced knowledge of leading architecture solutions in the industry area
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
• Ability to demonstrate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
