Job Summary:
Clark Building Technologies is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Security Systems Field Engineer to support our growing demand for professional surveillance system installations. This role is primarily focused on video surveillance technologies—conducting site surveys, designing systems, installing equipment, and supporting both our clients and internal project teams.
While the core responsibility centers on camera systems and network video recorders, the ideal candidate will also bring knowledge of access control technologies. Experience estimating access control systems—such as card readers, controllers, and software platforms—is a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough site surveys to determine camera placement, cable pathways, mounting hardware, and system layout to support accurate estimates and seamless installations.
- Install, configure, and test IP-based video surveillance systems, including cameras, network video recorders (NVRs), and digital video recorders (DVRs).
- Program and deploy video management systems (VMS), ensuring system stability, secure remote access, and optimized performance.
- Prepare detailed bills of materials (BOMs) to support estimates, quotes, and proposals for both surveillance and access control systems.
- Create floor diagrams, cable layouts, and installation instructions to guide field technicians during project execution.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to clients both on-site and remotely, ensuring system functionality post-installation.
- Collaborate with project managers, sales staff, and other field engineers on multi-phase or large-scale system deployments.
- Stay current on industry trends, evolving technologies, and manufacturer certifications to maintain technical edge and compliance.
- Assist with the design and estimation of electronic access control systems, including card readers, door controllers, and related components.
- Maintain accurate documentation of installations, configurations, and project notes in company systems.
- Ensure all work complies with local codes, safety regulations, and manufacturer standards.
- Represent Clark Building Technologies with professionalism and a service-first attitude at client sites.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong technical knowledge of IP-based surveillance systems, including cameras, NVRs/DVRs, and related components.
- Ability to design, configure, and troubleshoot video management systems (VMS), such as Ocularis, Milestone, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with access control systems, including experience estimating and specifying door controllers, card readers, power supplies, and locking hardware.
- Understanding of access control system design principles, wiring requirements, and device placement for optimal functionality and code compliance.
- Experience working with security system manufacturers, with a preference for AXIS cameras and mounting hardware.
- Working knowledge of IP networking fundamentals, including PoE switches, IP addressing, and basic network setup.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, floor plans, riser diagrams, and system schematics to support installation and quoting.
- Proficient in conducting field surveys and translating findings into actionable designs and material lists.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with a systematic, solution-focused mindset.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients, teammates, and project stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing job site conditions, and remain organized under pressure.
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in challenging environments.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
- Professional demeanor that reflects the values of Clark’s “White Glove” service approach.
- Strong willingness to learn new technologies and pursue relevant manufacturer certifications.
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
At least 10+ years of experience in security system installation or a related field.
Manufacturer certifications or technical training in security systems are a plus.
