About the opportunity

This role offers an exciting opportunity to be the link between Fonterra’s Ingredient Sales and our commercial activities to manage market price risk. Reporting to the GM Risk & Commercial Solutions you will drive value creation through the development and sale of Risk and Commercial Solutions (R&CS), including Price Risk Management (PRM) tools. In addition to this you will.


  • Identify, originate, and drive R&CS opportunities across Fonterra’s Ingredients, Foodservice, and Consumer businesses.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for PRM, building strong relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Lead, educate, and coach regional sales and commercial teams to deliver PRM tools and achieve growth targets.
  • Support Sales, Sourcing, and Commercial teams with R&CS solutions, discussions, and negotiations.
  • Develop and own regional or business unit-specific R&CS growth plans.
  • Enhance existing PRM solutions or develop new ones to meet the evolving needs of both customers and Fonterra.
  • Be the conduit to connect our sales teams with the wider Commodity Risk and Trading teams
  • Gain exposure to key value growth opportunities within the Ingredients & Trading transformational journey.


This role covers PRM for Ingredients, Consumer, and Foodservice. It involves a mix of BAU PRM sales, strategic risk and commercial execution, and in-market sales support, including project-based initiatives.


Location: Based in Shanghai, supporting China and Taiwan within Global Ingredients and Global Foodservice.


About you

The ideal candidate will lead the development and execution of regional/operating company R&CS growth strategies. This requires a deep understanding of the region’s vision, strategies, and business drivers, aligning them with Fonterra’s Risk Management framework. To succeed in this role you will bring:


  • Strong commercial and financial acumen - the ability to analyse market dynamics, manage risk, and shape commercial strategies.
  • Influential relationship-building skills - experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders, guiding sales teams, and negotiating with customers.
  • Strategic and adaptable thinking - the ability to align regional business objectives with Fonterra’s strategy while navigating a fast-paced, complex environment.
  • Confident communication and leadership - the ability to clearly articulate PRM solutions, educate teams, and provide leadership across sales and commercial functions.
  • Proven problem-solving ability - experience identifying and driving R&CS opportunities, adapting to market shifts, and refining solutions to meet evolving business needs.


Other attributes that will help you succeed in the role:


  • Fluency in Mandarin and English (essential)
  • Tertiary qualification (essential).
  • 5+ years’ experience in commodity trading, sales, marketing, business development, or portfolio management.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and educate stakeholders.
  • Commercial acumen and financial knowledge to drive strategic decision-making.
