Job Description

onsemi is seeking a self-driven, hands-on and motivated professional to join the Product Analysis Lab (PAL) located in Carmona, Philippines. As a Senior Principal Failure Analysis Engineer, you will have the opportunity to take a leading role applying a broad background of application and product knowledge, failure analysis skills and material analysis results to comprehensively identify failure mechanisms of complex semiconductor devices. This position requires an innovative approach to problem solving and has potential management opportunities. You will be joining a group of nearly 40 other engineers and technicians whose passion is to provide “best in class” analytical services and reports.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical direction of the lab by identifying gaps in knowledge and processes capabilities while setting up both short and long term plans to address those gaps
• Mentorship of all PAL employees to encourage robust technical decision making with a focus on data driven results that will withstand scrutiny and exceed our customers’ expectations
• Take a leading role in performing failure analyses on customer returned devices as well as internally generated failures from qualification, yield excursions or other evaluations
• Drive a culture of continuous improvement, documentation of best known methods and process development to meet new analytical challenges
• Isolate failure mechanisms on a very wide variety of product lines including complex ASICs, Analog and Mixed Signal devices
• Analyze background information, ATE datalogs, X-Ray, and SAT results. Characterize the failure mode on the bench using semiconductor parameter analyzers, oscilloscopes, function generators, logic testers, application boards and other general purpose bench equipment to develop an appropriate analysis plan
• Expertly employ and interpret core fault localization techniques such as PEM and OBIRCH, while considering CAD layout, schematic and failure mode information
• Effectively utilize more advanced techniques, such as DALS/SDL, microprobing, scan testing and ATPG diagnosis to fully localize the failing area
• Oversee and interpret material and physical analysis efforts including SEM, FIB, EDS, FTIR, etc. to visualize the failure mechanism
• Comprehensively and clearly document the analyses, succinctly linking failure mechanism to the failure mode as a part of the 8D problem solving process
• Development of new processes, procedures and techniques to improve analytical capability, while working in a team environment
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher is required, preference given to Electrical Engineering
• 10+ years of experience in a failure analysis or materials analysis lab is required
• Individual must be able to handle very small samples during chemical and other lab operations
• Individual must have a good command of the English language in spoken and written form
