SD Solutions seeks a Senior Middleware Architect / Lead Engineer to join our team in Washington, DC. Senior Middleware Architect / Lead Engineer is a senior technical leader and subject matter expert who architects and delivers advanced middleware solutions across the IRS enterprise. This role involves leading complex integrations, developing custom middleware code, ensuring secure system design, and supporting enterprise-wide modernization and compliance efforts. The SME Level 3 mentors junior staff and plays a critical role in interfacing with IRS cybersecurity, database, and enterprise architecture teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, integration, and performance optimization for middleware components across IRS platforms.
• Architect secure, scalable data flows using WebMethods, MQ, Ping Identity, and custom Java/.NET code.
• Troubleshoot complex issues involving LDAP, Oracle RAC, SAML, and OAuth2 integrations.
• Drive automation strategies via Ansible Tower, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure-as-Code principles.
• Support the IRS Middleware Strategic Plan through infrastructure assessments and future-state roadmaps.
• Provide advanced support for ACA, SSO, EDA, and SOR applications.
• Participate in Security Test & Evaluation (ST&E), CM board reviews, and strategic IPT sessions.
• Implement and enforce IRS best practices for BOE, ETL, and Informatica integrations.
  
  

Requirements

• 8-10+ years of middleware engineering or architecture experience in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Deep knowledge of IRS platforms, WebMethods, MQ, Java, LDAP, CICS, DB2, and SAML.
• Demonstrated experience with Ansible, GitHub, OpenShift, and secure CI/CD operations.
• Strong experience in troubleshooting, ST&E compliance, and interfacing with cybersecurity teams.
• IRS, federal agency, or tax systems experience highly preferred.

MUST have US Citizenship or Green Card

Location: This role is primarily remote but may require occasional onsite visits to IRS facilities located in Lanham, MD, and Martinsburg, WV, as needed.
