Senior Embedded Hardware Design Engineer - Job Overview
Applied Concepts has an exciting opportunity at our Richardson R&D facility, where you will be contributing to our Intelligent Traffic Systems and Speed Enforcement product lines. You will help leverage our 48 years of technology expertise in Radar, Lidar, and traffic safety to provide our customers with advanced, connected, real-time information systems that deliver value ranging from optimized traffic patterns to life-saving hazard avoidance and speed enforcement.
In this role, as a Senior Embedded Hardware Design Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for product development projects from a hardware perspective. You will work with a cross-functional team of experts to deliver innovative solutions spanning the entire product development life cycle, from planning and architecture development to production hand-off and continuous improvement activities. You must demonstrate excellent communication skills and be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment where today's collaboration and innovation drive tomorrow's successes.
Senior Electronics Design Engineer - How you'll make an impact:
- Provide technical leadership to the project team, driving technology implementation while ensuring high level objectives and milestones are met. Coordinate with cross functional resources to action and complete technical tasks.
- Contribute and influence new ideas that expand markets and product lines.
- Design high-performance, low-power edge computing platforms that combine the latest technologies in ARM SOCs, networking, camera systems, and AI-assisted analytics algorithms.
- Design cutting-edge products that combine our expertise in microwave radar systems, optical lidar systems, and our cloud-based analytics platforms to deliver unique and high-value functionality to our speed enforcement and intelligent traffic systems customers.
- Interface with Manufacturing, Quality Control, and Customer Service to provide technical product insights into new and existing products.
- Stay technically abreast of emerging technologies, techniques, and methodologies to support an inventive environment.
Senior Electronics Design Engineer - What you'll need to succeed:
- 7-10+ years of experience in high-level hardware architecture design and development, with an emphasis on embedded systems for harsh/outdoor environments.
- Proficient knowledge of and implementable experience with various bus communication protocols.
- Proficient knowledge of and implementable experience with various wireless technologies.
- Experience in supporting production testing and maintenance of embedded systems.
- Experience in working with cross-functional teams and providing system-level support.
- Proficient CAD skills.
- Proficient design analysis skills.
- A comprehensive, broad knowledge of product development and system integration.
- Ability to mentor and/or supervise technical staff, as needed.
- Develop relationships with key suppliers.
- Ability to fearlessly solve problems in any engineering discipline - through others, if necessary.
- A four-year Engineering degree is required; a master's degree in engineering or computer science is an advantage.
- Highly desirable: working knowledge of embedded firmware and DSP's and direct experience in developing high performance, low-power Linux based computing platforms.
