We are seeking an experienced Security Field Engineer to join our team, specializing in CCTV and Access Control systems for Small and Medium Business Enterprises (SMBE). The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with scalable security solutions such as Avigilon, Motorola, Paxton, and OpenPath, with a focus on installation, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance. This role is perfect for a field professional who enjoys working independently, managing small to mid-size projects, and building long-term client relationships. The Security Field Engineer will be responsible for break-fix services, programming, installation, and commissioning across various SMBE sites, ensuring smooth operation and exceptional service delivery.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Break-Fix Service & Troubleshooting:
Diagnose and repair issues related to CCTV cameras, NVR/DVRs, and access control devices.
Troubleshoot and repair electric strikes, mag locks, relays, door contacts, readers, and other access control components to ensure seamless operation.
Inspect wiring, connections, and power supplies for faults, replacing or repairing as necessary.
Test relays and fail-safe/fail-secure configurations for proper operation, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
Update firmware, replace faulty system components, and ensure minimal downtime for clients during repairs.
Programming & Configuration:
Configure and program Avigilon/Motorola, Paxton, and OpenPath systems, including cloud-based platforms.
Set up and manage access control permissions (e.g., card readers, keypads, mobile credentials) and integrate them with CCTV and alarm systems.
Install and configure electric locking devices, door controllers, and sensors in accordance with site-specific requirements.
Integrate CCTV and access control systems with networks, Wi-Fi, and mobile apps for remote management.
Manage and fine-tune video analytics and system alerts to align with the customer’s operational needs.
Installation & Commissioning:
Install and commission small to medium-sized security systems, including IP cameras, video recorders, access control hardware, and cabling.
Set up and integrate Paxton and OpenPath systems, including controllers, door hardware, and mobile access features.
Test installed systems to ensure full functionality and provide end-user training on operations and troubleshooting.
Project Coordination & Reporting:
Coordinate with clients and project teams to schedule installations, upgrades, and service calls.
Maintain accurate service records, including programming logs, wiring diagrams, and as-built documentation.
Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., NFPA, ADA) and safety protocols (e.g., OSHA).
Customer Engagement:
Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing timely updates and technical insights.
Offer recommendations for system enhancements and upgrades to meet evolving client needs.
Deliver exceptional customer service, fostering long-term relationships with SMBE clients.
Education and Experience:
5+ years’ experience with installation and service of Enterprise level access control, NVR/DVRs, CCTV, intrusion, and intercom systems
Demonstrate working knowledge of electricity and electronics. In addition, demonstrate an aptitude for troubleshooting systems and performing necessary repairs
Active certifications in access control, CCTV, intrusion, intercom, and/or other related low voltage systems.
Certifications in Avigilon, Motorola, Paxton, or OpenPath systems are highly desirable.
Strong hands-on experience in the areas of project management
Ability to work on multiple tasks and effectively manage priorities
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.
Excellent written and communication skills
English language fluency
Minimum high school/trade school graduate, military, or two-year Associate degree in a technical field involving electronics or computers
Working knowledge of Windows Operating System, Linux, Microsoft's suite of Office software, and Bluebeam/Studio
Working knowledge of IT network systems
Ability to use hand and power tools and test equipment such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes, digital analyzers, battery analyzers, frequency meters, decibel meters and communication devices as required
Ability to read and understand complex building architectural, mechanical and electrical documents, as well as project plans, specifications, schedules and equipment installation/operation/troubleshooting manual
Must maintain a Department of Criminal Justice registration and able to pass related background check, drug screen and credit check.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer;
Must be able to lift 40 lbs. at times;
Ability and willingness to travel to and from various project and client sites in and around the VA and MD area.
