The Project Manager is responsible for leading a team of professionals in completing projects by a set deadline to uphold business initiatives. Their duties include analyzing and dividing up their budget for different project aspects and advocating for additional funding when necessary, hiring freelance professionals or selecting project team members from existing departments, and setting or adjusting project schedules to adhere to deadlines. Additionally, this position may be called upon for short-term special assignments at management’s discretion.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Must maintain the 6 principles of a Project Manager:
Plan the work, work the plan
Coordinate delivery of equipment and materials
Set goals for project regarding efficiencies and production per scope
Stay on time/under budget for project
Keep client in the loop of project status
Manage risk
Perform a project kick-off meeting with Estimator and Salesperson after thoroughly reviewing specifications and drawings, especially in areas including data centers, telecommunications infrastructure, AV system layouts, security device locations, and structured cabling plans.
Create a comprehensive project plan incorporating telecom, AV, security/access control, and cabling timelines and milestones.
Coordinate all pre & post construction activities (e.g., submittals, SOV, warranties, rebates, as-builts) across multiple low-voltage trades.
Oversee field installation activities to maximize profitability and ensure technical accuracy in all system types (AV, security, cabling, telecom).
Schedule and coordinate installations based on client needs and site readiness, including multi-trade dependencies.
Assist in contract reviews and interpretation as it relates to the project’s scope of work, especially across multiple technical systems.
Coordinate procurement and delivery of specialized equipment and components across all technologies.
Conduct Quality Control to ensure installations meet or exceed plans, specs, code requirements, and customer expectations.
Ensure adherence to safety protocols and proper handling of technology-specific equipment.
Provide regular project status updates and flag any issues to management for timely resolution.
Conduct site inspections and develop estimates/proposals for smaller projects or change orders involving telecom, AV, access control, and cabling.
Deliver monthly financial tracking and cost-to-complete reports, including margin analysis by system type.
Submit invoicing in a timely and accurate manner based on project progress and completion.
Utilize project tracking tools on projects over the designated value threshold.
Collaborate with the Project Foreman using task trackers and budget vs actual reports across all system installations.
Coach Foremen and crew leaders to improve understanding of project financials and cross-disciplinary coordination.
Manage an assigned portfolio of projects to meet revenue and profit margin goals
Coordinate manpower allocation and participate in regular Operations meetings to ensure resource alignment across multiple technical teams.
Follow all company procedures and processes for project execution.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Understanding of Data Centers, Telecommunications, Audio Visual systems, Security/Access Control technologies, Structured Cabling standards, and/or General Contracting practices.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple technical teams.
Capable of managing multiple complex projects simultaneously and efficiently.
Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills and strong work ethic.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (w/advanced Excel skills) with a fundamental understanding of Kane project management software (i.e., Bluebeam, Smartsheet, Procore, Autodesk) would be a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Typical standard office environment conditions; sitting, standing, walking, and minimal lifting. The employee may occasionally have to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
