Maryland Science Center seeks an experienced performer and program developer for our Traveling Science Program. Join the team traveling across Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region, presenting STEAM-based assembly and classroom programming to audiences in their own communities. Most desirable candidates will have an undergraduate degree in theater, education, or a related field, basic knowledge of science concepts, experience researching and developing productions, and creating hands on activities for school aged children. Basic Functions:
Delivers interactive presentations
Assists in the creation of new science-based, hands-on experiences
Assists in the training and evaluation of Traveling Science staff in science-based presentations
Maintain chemicals and equipment
Administrative tasks and communication
Delivers program presentations in other education department programs including school programs and public programs
Participates in other short-term programming opportunities
Must be able to pass background check and fingerprinting
Must have a Maryland driver’s license and clean driving record
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Basic and general science principles with a capability to apply such knowledge to the creation of informal education programming
Basic computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite
Lab safety and chemical handling
Basic audio/visual equipment
Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Theater/live performance/public presentations
Excellent interpersonal skills
Fluent in Spanish
Ability to:
Work without direct supervision as necessary
Be flexible and adapt to constantly changing situations
Act as a senior member of the TSP team
Contribute as an active leading member on a team of staff and volunteers
Work occasional evening and weekend hours
Lift and carry 50 lbs
Positions Supervised: no direct supervision
Supervision Received: Position reports to the External Programs Manager
Education: A.A. degree or directly related work experience required. B.S. degree in science, education, or other related field preferred.
Experience: Requires one year of experience in the presentation of informal, educational programming. Experience performing in front of an audience. Experience in program development desired.
Compensation: $22.00 per hour

Hours: 35 hours a week, generally Monday through Friday with some evening and weekend requirements
