CIVIC ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM MANAGER

Hybrid position in Kansas City offers an opportunity to grow Youth and Government and Civic Engagement Programs in the Midwest region (MO, KS, IA, and NE). Applications accepted until May 16, 2025.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Director of Civic Engagement, the Program Manager is responsible for administrative support, logistical support, and program coordination of the Youth and Government Program, specifically in Missouri and Kansas, but also in support of new programs in Iowa and Nebraska.


This position will also provide support across a continuum of programs serving MSAY and designated YMCAs. The Program Manager work cooperatively with all other MSAY staff, local YMCA staff, teachers and community volunteers to provide support for various MSAY Initiatives. They will perform all duties in a safe and prudent manner while also promoting the YMCA core values of honesty, caring, respect, responsibility.


GENERAL FUNCTIONS

A bachelor’s degree in political science (or similar) is preferred, along with expertise or experience working with teens and young people, schools and community organizations. The person filling this position must possess strong organization, human relations, event planning, and project management skills. Knowledge of youth programming, volunteer training, and office technology is also critical. An appreciation and understanding of Missouri and/or Kansas state government and political processes is preferred. The minimum physical requirements of this position are documented in the attached job analysis form which has been completed by the direct line supervisor.


The minimum physical requirements of this position include ability to remain in a stationary position 50%, move freely and lift 25-pound boxes or materials to load and unload equipment or materials, manage equipment, and work on computers and travel to events as required.


  • Coordinate logistics for meetings and events.
  • Develop, produce, and distribute all necessary materials.
  • Complete all necessary administrative duties and logistical arrangements for various programs, events, and meetings.
  • Attend, lead, or assist in providing on-site leadership and management of programs, events, and meetings.
  • Coordinate the recruitment, training, motivation, and supervision of program volunteers.
  • Provide technical assistance and resource materials to YMCAs and communities related to relevant content.
  • Assist with annual evaluations of programs and initiatives and make improvements as needed.
  • Develop meaningful peer relationships with other YMCA professionals.
  • Assist with the development and execution of the MSAY strategic plan.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Facilitate and guide the teaching of the YMCA Core Values in all YAG programs.
  • Market and promote Youth and Government programs to schools and YMCAs throughout Missouri and Kansas.
  • Complete necessary administrative duties and logistical arrangements for YAG programs and meetings.
  • Recruit, train, and prepare young people to participate in YMCA Youth and Government in Missouri and Kansas.
  • Maintain regular contact with advisors, teachers, and local YMCAs for effective program administration.
  • Measure the effectiveness of Youth and Government using quantitative and qualitative data and make recommendations to the Director of Civic Engagement.
  • Develop and help implement new youth program opportunities that align with the mission of Youth and Government.
  • Assist with the recruitment, training, support, and supervision of program volunteers.
  • Assist with the development and execution of a YAG Strategic Plan.
  • With Director of Civic Engagement, provide on-site leadership and support at all YAG programs, events, and meetings.
