Collaborative Team Player: Works well with others, adapting to changing priorities and fostering teamwork across agencies.Definition: Under general supervision, performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties in support of human services and community programs, classes, and activities, including senior recreation and services designed to meet basic community needs such as food and paratransit services; interacts with diverse populations/groups, program participants, and the public and provides information or directs questions and requests to the appropriate area; explains program rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and systems and responds to inquiries and complaints; and performs related duties as assigned. Distinguishing Characteristics: This is a journey-level classification responsible for performing technical and complex administrative duties in support of assigned human services programs, projects, and activities. Positions at this level exercise judgment and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Human Services Program Coordinator in that the latter has responsibility for human services programs activities including responsibility for the direction, planning, coordination, and supervision of program services, budget, grant, and contract administration, as well as coordinating and providing support to assigned boards, commissions, and committees. Supervision Exercised and Received: Exercises no direct supervision over staff. Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Examples of Typical Job Functions: The essential functions of the classification may include, but are not limited to, the functions below and are subject to changes in operational necessity.Provides a wide variety of administrative duties in support of assigned human services programs, services, operations, and activities, such as senior recreation, food, and FLEX RIDES/paratransit programs and services, and other services designed to meet basic community needs; prepares, assembles, updates, and distributes various program and department information, forms, records, documents, and data as requested.Assists with Senior Community Center and other related facility operations serving multiple communities; receives calls, visitors, and inquiries and provides information and/or referrals to the public, clients/customers/participants, and/or outside agencies on human services programs, services, and activities; provides training and orients program participants; explains, interprets, and applies regulations, policies, procedures, systems, rules, and precedents.Responds to inquiries and provides advice on issues related to program eligibility, usage and best practices; assists customers and participants in filling out applications and other documents; processes and approves applications and forms.Verifies and reviews forms and reports for completeness and conformance with established regulations and procedures; determines completeness of applications, records, and files.Responds to day-to-day program and/or facility needs, complaints, and requests for information; investigates and resolves stakeholder complaints and issues; logs and records requests, complaints, and program activities.For more detailed information about these job classifications, visit: Human Services Program Assistant.
