Atlas is our next-generation humanoid robot, built for real-world speed, strength, and precision. We're looking for a principal motor designer to lead the design and optimization of the custom motors that drive its actuators—pushing the limits of performance while scaling towards mass production.
What You’ll Do
Design and optimize motors for performance, efficiency, and manufacturability.
Run electromagnetic, thermal, and structural simulations to guide design decisions.
Collaborate heavily with mechanical, electrical, controls, and manufacturing teams on actuator design.
Trade and specify motor topologies, materials, winding strategies, and cooling methods.
Support fast prototyping, validation, and iteration.
What We’re Looking For
7+ years of experience in motor design or optimization.
Deep understanding of electromagnetics, loss mechanisms, and scaling laws.
Proficiency with motor simulation tools e.g. JMAG, ANSYS Maxwell, FEMM, etc.
Strong mechanical and electrical designer with good intuition for multidisciplinary trades.
Experience with motor manufacturing and cost-performance tradeoffs.
Bonus: background in robotics or other compact electromechanical systems.
