Summary

The Drive Inverter Modeling team develops a parametric inverter model that incorporates inverter losses including semiconductor and other key components in the Inverter, develop new inverter concept, and supports vehicle architecture design, performance evaluation. As a member of the team, you will be responsible for the development, utilization, and validation of inverter models in a generalized capacity. You will develop, maintain and use the model to run trade-off studies, facilitate multi-objective optimization, and communicate performance expectations and requirements. Your work will be highly cross functional with other System Engineering teams. * Develop an inverter modeling framework that will manage key project deliverables, automate reports, manage large datasets, and provide insight into next generation designs * Work with experimental data to develop thermal system and power semiconductor models * Take part in system level studies to optimize inverter performance for application specific operation * Collaborate with Thermal System Designers, Inverter Firmware Developers, and Reliability Engineers to ensure safe, reliable, operation * Use Tesla's world class drive unit dynamometers to test inverter operation and validate loss models across torque and speed * Effectively communicate modeling results to drive architecture, cost, and performance initiatives * Degree in Electrical Engineering and two years industry experience or equivalent experience * Experience with advanced model development in MATLAB/Simulink, preferably of power converters * Excellent understanding of power semiconductors and/or power converters working principle * Experience with large datasets and complex models. * Excellent first-principal physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, power delivery, energy storage and transformation, and basic thermo-dynamics * Hands on experience with power-semiconductor double pulse testing and thermal system characterization. * Proficient with common electronic test equipment. (oscilloscopes, signal generators, DC-supplies, multimeters, network analyzers, and power analyzers)
