Solar Turbines Incorporated, headquartered in San Diego, California, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc. Solar manufactures the world’s most widely used family of mid-sized industrial gas turbines, ranging from 1 to 23 megawatts. Job Summary
The Platforms, Technologies, and NPI group within Solar Turbines is at the forefront of developing new, innovative products crucial to the success of customers across a wide range of industries. We are looking for a motivated, creative, and out-of-the-box-thinking Electrical Design Engineer to work in a fast-paced engineering environment using the agile development process to drive Solar’s profitable growth and ensure our customers’ success.
The New Product Introduction Electrical Design Engineer is the transformer of the team. They can take defined inputs and step them up or down to meet system requirements. They are big-picture thinkers who can break the system down into fine details. They take all the incremental loads required for turbine operation and integrate them into the control system to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the equipment.
We are looking for a high-performing Electrical Engineer to be part of a small, elite team dedicated to the continuous development and improvement of new products to ensure our customers’ future success. The Electrical Design Engineer works closely with the Product Owner, Scrum Master, and design team to take business and design requirements, understand their impact on the control system, and break them into actionable items to support delivering on our commitments
Responsibilities:
Help the Product Owner, Scrum Master and team translate business needs and design requirements into actionable items to develop and improve the product control system
Work with Field Service Representatives, Supply Chain and Business Development to understand true problem that needs to be solved then be a solution provider
Develop the Electrical Loop Schematic
Develop and maintain single line diagram
Define load lists and cable definition
Maintain the controls layout and bills of material
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, or commensurate Experience.
3+ years of engineering experience
Knowledge of controls, gas turbine operation, and driven equipment
Top Candidates will have:
Experience with Gas Turbine control Systems and their operation
Experience with battery systems
Experience with PromisE V8i CAD.
Understanding of Standards composite library structure and implementation process
Experience with Windchill
Experience with Gas Turbine control Systems and their operation
Working knowledge of NFPA, IEEE, API, NEC, IEC and other application electrical codes and standards.
Design of medium and low voltage (480V – 15kV) power systems including but not limited to switchgears, transformers, motor control centers, auto transfer scheme, generator and transformer neutral grounding.
Familiar with the multifunction protection relay setting and protection philosophies for MV generators and transformers.

Summary Pay Range:
$87,456.00 - $131,184.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
