Summary

ABOUT THIS POSITION The Planning & Development Department guides the physical development of the city by preserving our historic sites, planning what can be built where, and ensuring safe construction of buildings and infrastructure. A host of advisory and governing bodies of residents as well as elected officials provide oversight as the city grows and needs arise. The process is governed through development and enforcement of city codes and ordinances. The City of Phoenix Planning and Development Department is seeking a Mechanical Plans Engineer to review and examine complex mechanical and plumbing construction plans for compliance with adopted codes and ordinances. Responsibilities include examining new construction, alteration, and repairs for compliance with the City plumbing and mechanical codes. Advice and guidance is provided to architects, engineers, and contractors related to the interpretation of the Phoenix Building Construction Code and in resolving complicated code issues. Technical expertise is exercised to develop and maintain consistency among plan review and inspection staff. IDEAL CANDIDATE * Knowledge of Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), International Plumbing Code (IPC), International Mechanical Code (IMC), International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), and construction codes. * Knowledge of standard plumbing and mechanical construction materials. * Ability to read and interpret building construction plans. * Ability to use professional judgement in application of code requirements. * Possess strong communication skills, both written and oral. SALARY Pay Range: $102,688.80 to $137,592.00 annually. Hiring Range: $102,688.80 to $118,913.60 annually. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: * Registered Professional Engineer/Mechanical (PE) in the State of Arizona. * Five years of experience reviewing plumbing and mechanical construction plans. * Experience using Electronic Plan Review software. * Experience performing simple to complicated engineering and math computations.
