Summary

Job Summary

This position is responsible for supporting customer needs, advance their global state of the art cutting systems, reduce costs and improve the manufacturability of our products.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Answer technical questions and define project requirements for Customers and Sales
  • Determine project feasibility and manufacturability, including the adaptability of core products and designs to stated purposes
  • Present design proposals and risk assessments to Sales
  • Exercise independent judgment and draw conclusions based upon available information
  • Develop design concepts and drawings using accepted and creative engineering practices
  • Develop Bills of Materials, Drawings, Assemblies, Engineering Specifications, Manuals, Preliminary Time Studies, and Project Timelines
  • Validate designs using a variety of conventional tools such as DFMEA, experimental and analytical methods, GD&T, and practical hands on performance testing. Assist in assuring products achieve regulatory compliance and reliability standards
  • Work with peers in multiple departments and vendors to advance proprietary technologies and conceptualize new design features and functions
  • Work closely with teams to plan, problem solve engineering/manufacturing obstacles and manage projects from inception to market release

Minimum Education And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design and development of automated machinery, systems or finished mechanical components
  • Strong problem solving capability with personal flexibility
  • Knowledge of applying Stress/Deflection principles, emphasizing the resolution of issues caused by force and acceleration
  • Knowledge of creating machining details and weldments using ferrous and non-ferrous materials
  • MS Office, 3D CAD - Solidworks, and Solidworks Simulation Software a plus
  • Ability to travel up to 5%

Additional Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Gas/fluid system controls
  • Design automation with linear motion, drive sizing, and pinion selection
  • The ability to conduct and execute FMEA and GD&T
  • Self-starter, motivated to take on multiple projects and lead small teams thru design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills combined with the ability to collaborate with others
  • Basic 2D AutoCAD
  • Experience with product development and a strong understanding of industrial product design and commercialization with respect to lean manufacturing
  • Knowledge and experience in gas dynamics, material science and the steel cutting industry
  • Experience in value engineering and cost reduction related product design and manufacturing
  • OSHA, NFPA, and CGA standards or past experience with design regulations
