Summary

Role Overview

Dhruva Space is looking for a dedicated Mechanical Engineer - MGSE (Mechanical Ground Support Equipment) to support the design, analysis, fabrication, and validation of MGSE systems used during spacecraft assembly, integration, and testing activities. This role will involve working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable handling and support of space systems throughout their lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have strong engineering fundamentals, a hands-on approach, and prior experience in the aerospace or space domain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate MGSE systems for spacecraft assembly, integration, and testing operations.
  • Perform structural and load analysis to ensure the mechanical safety and integrity of MGSE under operational and test conditions.
  • Generate operational procedures and provide hands-on support during lifting, rotation, transportation, and installation of spacecraft systems.
  • Collaborate with AIT teams to implement mechanical solutions that streamline integration and testing workflows.
  • Conduct load tests, fit checks, and interface assessments to verify MGSE performance and compatibility.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards in all MGSE activities.
  • Work with manufacturing teams to optimize designs for machinability, assembly, and production efficiency.
  • Develop and implement custom MGSE solutions for environmental testing campaigns (vibration, TVAC, acoustic, etc.).
  • Maintain configuration control and documentation, including design records, modifications, procedures, and test reports.
  • Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, and continuous improvement processes for MGSE reliability and performance.

Technical Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in MGSE design and development for aerospace or space programs.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as CATIA, SolidWorks, or Siemens NX.
  • Experience with FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus) for stress, thermal, and structural analysis.
  • Strong foundation in mechanical engineering concepts—kinematics, structural integrity, material properties, and load path calculations.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft handling requirements, cleanroom protocols, ESD precautions, and contamination control.
  • Knowledge of mechanical fixtures, lifting equipment, transport hardware, and integration tooling for spacecraft applications.
  • Hands-on experience with machining, fabrication, and assembly processes.
  • Understanding of environmental test systems and launch vehicle interface considerations.
  • Strong technical documentation capabilities—procedures, operational guidelines, and test validation reports.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (ECSS, NASA, ISRO, or equivalent) for MGSE design and safety.
  • Experience with risk assessments, FMEA, and problem resolution during spacecraft integration.
  • Willingness to travel for onsite support during testing and integration at partner or launch facilities.
  • Passion for precision engineering and enabling mission success through robust mechanical solutions.
