Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for mechanical engineering development and design of automated equipment for internal customers.
• Work with customers to define the system specifications, establish a project plan and timeline.
• Use SolidWorks to layout the system in 3D and review the preliminary design with the customer.
• Select the main components, such as motion stages, vision components, pneumatical components, sensors, and commercial tooling.
• Detailed design all subsystems and related components. Generate necessary drawings for part manufacturing.
• Work with technicians to assemble and set up the system. Manage the system building project.
• Document all design details. Transfer the system to production floor when it is ready.
• Provide production support and process upgrade if needed.
  
  

Education & Experience

• Bachelors / masters degree in mechanical engineering.
• Minimum 5 yr. of mechanical engineering design experience in automated equipment development.
• Knowledge of motion system, vision applications, and pneumatical components is must.
• Familiarity with the laser technologies and applications is desired.
  
  

Skills

• Experience with semi-automated and automated systems mechanical engineering development.
• Strong knowledge in mechanical system design principles, material properties, machining, surface treatment and finish, dimensioning, and etc.
• Proficient in utilizing SolidWorks in mechanical system design.
• Meticulous and thorough; diligent with design documentation.
• Ability to work in the fast-paced team and independent settings.
• Good communication skills. Work effectively with other members of Coherent Corp.
• Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English is required.
  
  

Working Conditions

• 5 days onsite. May need to work in some irregular hours, such as evenings and weekends, for urgent production support.
• May need to travel overseas to customer site for equipment transfer, engineering training, and production support.
