Zing Recruiting, in partnership with a leading facilities management team in Fairfax County, VA, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead critical design and construction projects. This is a long-term contract opportunity (2+ years with potential for extension) offering top-tier compensation, stability, and the chance to make a meaningful impact on public infrastructure.

Mechanical Engineer Job Summary

• Pay: $40.00 - $65.00 per hour (Based on experience)
• Shift: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Nights and weekends as necessary)
• Long-Term Contract: 2+ years with possible extension
  
  

Mechanical Engineer Key Responsibilities

• Provide senior-level leadership for large-scale and/or multiple complex capital and non-capital projects
• Lead and manage the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of HVAC, Building Automation Systems (BAS), and plumbing equipment and systems
• Serve as the primary representative of Fairfax County on design projects and during construction phases
• Perform and review mechanical engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, reports, and budgets
• Sign and seal engineering work as a licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer
• Ensure timely project completion consistent with the quality standards of the Facilities Management Department
• Act as the department’s subject matter expert and consult with other county departments and agencies
  
  

Mechanical Engineer Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME)
• Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience
• Active Virginia PE license or a transferable PE license from another state (Temporary 6-month exemption granted for out-of-state licenses pending reciprocity)
• Minimum 3 years as lead mechanical PE with design and specification experience in HVAC, BAS, and plumbing systems for commercial mission-critical buildings
• Strong background in energy management, system validation, and design optimization
• Valid driver's license required
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check and driving record check
