The Mechanical Design Engineer’s primary responsibility is to design the mechanical structure and perform thermal calculations of environmental test chambers to customer’s specifications. The Mechanical Design Engineer works closely with the production department as well as the product, manufacturing, refrigeration, mechanical, and electrical engineers.
Duties And Responsibilities
Utilize Solidworks, and AutoCAD in chamber design
Generate drawings for submittal to customers, vendors, and production
Generate chamber BOMs for release to production
Works with production to assure manufacturability and to recommend improvements in design, cost, and quality
Effectively presents information to customers, vendors, and production
Additional responsibilities as determined by the Engineering Manager
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in an industrial product manufacturing environment (or equivalent)
Knowledge of sheet metal design required
Knowledge of structural steel weldment design is a plus
Experience in refrigeration theory, thermodynamics, and heat transfer is a plus
Computer Skills
Strong computer related skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
AutoCAD experience is a plus
Solidworks experience required
PTC Creo experience is a plus
Familiarity with PDM systems is a plus
Experience using ERP systems – SAP is a plus
Leadership Skills
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to manage time while simultaneously handle multiple tasks and projects
Reasoning Ability
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
Mechanical and mathematical aptitude
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw proper conclusions
Working Conditions
Periodic stationary work with frequent movement throughout the facility to access chambers, files, office machinery, etc. Works at a desk and a computer screen for extended periods of time. Employee must be able to manually enter data to the computer system and understand the screen and images that appear. Frequently lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs. Use of hands to hold, lift and handle materials. Occasional climbing, bending and squatting.
