FOR USE BY IT AND HSIS ONLY: The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a MANAGER-NETWORK TECHNICIAN-ENT to manage the field technician group. This position will commit to fostering an environment of heightened security following Information Technology Security Policies and participating in security training, such as Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), on an annual basis.
Supervise the activities and staff involved in maintaining the organization's administration of IT network and telephony field services. Monitors and control work orders and workflow. Ensures compliance with established safety and security protocols. Assists in development and leads implementation of strategic plans for continuous improvement of this team and its processes, according to established goals. Seeks opportunities for innovation and process improvement within the team. May engage with third-party and contracted labor to meet needs. Oversees the activities involved in maintaining UAB network and voice services. Responsibilities include ensuring workforce deployment, order prioritization, warehouse operations, and fleet management. Ensures compliance with IT and UAB policies, change management processes, and security standards.
Responsibilities:
1. Technician Field Services Management: o Manage the installation, configuration, repair, and recovery of network and voice assets. development, implementation, installation, and operation of information systems focused on analog and digital voice services. o Oversee warehouse management to determine appropriate inventory, stock levels, and asset management and tracking. o Ensure the vehicle fleet is properly maintained. o Stay informed about emerging technologies and assess their suitability for business applications aligned with organizational strategy. o Handle change management, audit activities, and operational procedures related to the maintenance of UAB networking and voice services.
2. Monitoring and Incident Resolution: o Monitor the health, performance, and reliability of all voice components and services for performance issues and outages to ensure prevention and quick resolution of issues (both during and after hours). o Establish strong documentation, notification, and escalation procedures. o Prepare incident reports documenting production outages and root cause analysis.
3. Strategic Planning: o Research and provide strategic direction on the use of new products, techniques, and technologies. o Collaborate with other managers or third parties to analyze needs.
(Annual Salary: $73,945 - $120,165)
High school diploma or GED and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferred Skills:
Knowledge or experience serving as a functional lead or direct supervisor for team of multiple individuals. This position will lead a team of at least seven (7) direct reports. Ability to clearly communicate, both written and verbally, with management, team members, and IT customers. Ability to assist in or lead conflict resolution Ability to prioritize work, demand, and competing deadlines for self and team Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time Other: Ability to drive and operate a campus vehicles and equipment May be required to lift up to 50lbs without assistance.
