Summary

Job Purpose

The Maintenance Engineering Manager will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing all maintenance engineering activities within the Technical Support Department. This includes leading the implementation and continuous improvement of asset management systems such as Maximo or COSWIN, ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational efficiency. The role will focus on driving innovative maintenance strategies, optimizing equipment reliability, and managing a high-performing team. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement, implementing Lean manufacturing principles, and leveraging cutting-edge technologies, the Maintenance Engineering Manager will contribute to the overall success of the organization's maintenance operations, minimizing downtime, reducing costs, and enhancing asset performance.

Responsibilities/Duties

Technical Support and Maintenance Engineering

  • Provide expert technical support to the maintenance & Operation teams, offering guidance and solutions to complex maintenance challenges or equipment failures.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for major asset failures and develop corrective and preventive action strategies.
  • Collaborate with other engineering departments to align technical solutions with operational goals and broader organizational strategies.
  • Manage the implementation of engineering modifications and improvements to enhance equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety.
  • Oversee the testing, design, and implementation of new maintenance technologies and tools to improve efficiency and asset reliability.
  • Lead the test and handover of new assets.

Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the maintenance engineering department, utilizing Lean methodologies, Six Sigma principles, and 5S to optimize processes.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging employees to identify inefficiencies and propose innovative solutions.
  • Drive cost reduction programs through effective maintenance strategies, energy efficiency improvements, and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Develop and lead cross-functional teams to implement process improvements, enhancing productivity and optimizing resource utilization across departments.

Scheduling and Work Order Management

  • Oversee the scheduling and prioritization of all maintenance activities to ensure optimal resource allocation and minimal operational disruption.
  • Manage work orders, utilizing the CMMS system for efficient tracking, reporting, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with operations, production, and engineering teams to align maintenance schedules with production requirements and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure all maintenance work orders are fully documented with clear instructions, material requirements, and any deviations from the original plan.

Performance Management and Reporting

  • Set and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for the maintenance engineering team to ensure performance targets are consistently met.
  • Maintain a comprehensive maintenance performance dashboard to track critical metrics such as uptime, downtime, MTBF, and MTTR.
  • Generate detailed performance reports for senior management, highlighting areas for improvement, asset reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Use performance data to drive decision-making, optimize maintenance processes, and reduce operational costs.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and training to the maintenance engineering team, fostering a high-performance, collaborative work culture.
  • Implement ongoing technical training programs, certifications, and career development opportunities for team members.
  • Lead recruitment efforts to ensure the team is adequately resourced and capable of meeting the department's demands.
  • Promote a collaborative environment where knowledge sharing is encouraged across teams.

Strategic Planning and Innovation

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the department's strategic plan, aligning maintenance goals with organizational objectives.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging technologies and systems that can enhance maintenance processes, improve asset reliability, and increase efficiency.
  • Lead the implementation of digital transformation initiatives in maintenance, including IoT sensors, predictive analytics, and condition-based monitoring systems.
  • Ensure the team stays ahead of technological advancements and industry trends, bringing innovative solutions into the organization.

Vendor and Contractor Management

  • Oversee relationships with third-party contractors and service providers, ensuring quality of service and adherence to contractual agreements.
  • Manage the procurement of maintenance services and materials, ensuring that the department has the necessary resources to complete tasks effectively.
  • Evaluate vendor performance to ensure contractors and suppliers contribute to the maintenance goals and objectives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with operations, engineering, and production departments to ensure maintenance activities align with organizational goals and minimize production disruptions.
  • Work with the project management team to support the successful installation, upgrades, and modifications of equipment and facilities.
  • Facilitate communication between the maintenance team and other departments to identify areas of improvement and enhance organizational performance.

Safety

  • Ensure all environmental, health, and safety regulations are adhered to across all maintenance operations.
  • Regularly audit and review safety protocols and procedures to maintain compliance with local, national, and international safety standards.
  • Coordinate with the safety department to ensure all maintenance activities are performed in accordance with risk assessments and safety guidelines.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs to ensure employees are equipped to handle tasks safely.
  • Lead investigations for safety breaches or environmental hazards, ensuring corrective actions are implemented promptly.

CMMS ( Maximo and COSWIN)

  • Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the CMMS Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system, ensuring data accuracy in asset management processes.
  • Define and manage asset lifecycle strategies, including condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
  • Develop and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance schedules to ensure minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Work closely with procurement and inventory teams to ensure timely availability of spare parts and proper stock management within CMMS.
  • Utilize CMMS data analytics and reporting capabilities to track asset performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • CMRP (Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional) or equivalent certifications are preferred.

Knowledge

  • Strong general technical knowledge related to asset management and maintenance systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of maintenance engineering principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Expertise in Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), specifically with Maximo & COSWIN.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and compliance requirements in the maintenance environment.
  • Understanding of railway operations and maintenance practices.

Experience

  • At least 9-11 years of relevant experience in the Railway industry, with 4-5 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Minimum of 9 years’ experience in a Methods maintenance environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in change management and leading improvement initiatives within a technical environment.
