About this Opportunity:
The Lead Controls System Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for the estimation, design, engineering, integration, and delivery of complex industrial automation systems across a wide range of applications and industries. This role demands a systems-level mindset and deep experience in electrical and mechanical hardware/software design, controls integration, and engineering leadership. Serve as a subject matter expert and technical point of contact for customers, engineers, project managers, and internal teams. This role is instrumental in shaping control system architecture, guiding design and engineering execution, and ensuring project success from concept through commissioning.

Location:
Evolution Motion Solutions is headquartered in Farmers Branch, TX with additional offices in TX, UT, AL, AZ, MT, OK, MA, MI IN, IL, OH and Canada. This position will be based out of our Auburn Hills, MI facility.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary duties.
* Interpret and translate complex technical Scopes of Work (SOWs) into robust, scalable industrial control system designs.
* Lead the electrical architecture development, including power distribution, safety circuits, motion control, communication networks, and HMI design.
* Serve as the Electrical Technical Lead, advising internal engineers, panel shop technicians, and field service personnel on design and implementation strategies.
* Review customer specifications and requirements to develop initial control concepts and propose design approaches that meet technical and budgetary constraints.
* Guide cross-functional design reviews and ensure engineering documentation-including schematics, BOMs, and layout drawings-is complete and compliant with relevant standards.
* Conduct system calculations for disconnects, power supplies, transformers, SCCR, and thermal management.
* Drive technical direction during internal project kickoff meetings, aligning engineering, project management, production, and sales teams around a unified design vision.
* Solve complex hardware design and integration challenges, providing clear direction for electrical build activities.
* Prepare technical proposals and support quote development by defining control architecture, estimating material and labor costs, and identifying risks.
* Perform estimating and quoting efforts, contributing technical input, architecture proposals, and labor/material cost assumptions for proposals and bids.
* Represent the company as a technical expert during customer discussions, design reviews, and site visits.
* Ensure compliance with IEC/NEC, UL508A, NFPA 70/79 and industry best practices throughout the design and build lifecycle.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, skills and/or abilities required. An individual must meet the minimum requirements as listed in each qualification's subsection.
EDUCATION:
* Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent work experience.
EXPERIENCE:
* Minimum 12+ years of industry experience in industrial controls, factory automation systems, or electrical/mechanical engineering.
* Demonstrated experience leading technical projects and mentoring junior engineers.
* Proven track record designing systems with Bosch Rexroth, AB Rockwell or Siemens platforms.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
* Expert in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical for schematic design, layout, and BOM generation.
* Strong understanding of control system design, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, and industrial safety systems.
* Ability to synthesize system-level requirements into actionable engineering plans and detailed designs.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to lead technical discussions with customers and internal teams.
* Proficiency in interpreting industry codes, standards, and best practices (IEC/NEC, UL508A, NFPA 70/79).
* Skilled in troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced project environment.
* Capable of working independently on complex engineering challenges and making sound technical decisions.
* Practical understanding of panel shop operations, field build processes, and on-site commissioning.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is primarily sedentary, requiring extended periods of sitting or standing to perform the work. There may be some movement from area to area to transport items weighing no more than 15 pounds. Physical tasks include walking, grasping, carrying, lifting, assembling, listening, writing, speaking, and traveling.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the primary duties of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to a manufacturing and general office environment. Work outside normal business hours is possible.
