Summary

Job Purpose

Under the direction of the National Director of HR Operations, the HR Operations Manager for Open Sky Education plays a critical role in overseeing and streamlining day-to-day human resources operations while ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with labor laws and regulations. This position includes managing and providing oversight to the HRIS Analyst to ensure the effective operation and optimization of HR systems. The HR Operations Manager is responsible for implementing and administering HR policies, resolving employee relations matters, and collaborating with the HR Director to address short- to medium-term HR objectives. With a strong foundation in HR processes, systems, and interpersonal communication, this role fosters a positive work environment and ensures efficient and smooth HR operations across the organization.

S/he will work closely with the Talent Acquisition, Finance & Payroll, Data & Applications, and schools to provide a wide range of quality Human Resources services to all levels of team members throughout the entire organization.

Essential Responsibilities And Competencies

HR Operations and Policy Implementation

  • Manage daily HR operations, including onboarding and offboarding processes, while serving as a backup for the Sr. Benefits Specialist and Director of HR Operations when needed. Collaborate closely with other business functions, such as payroll, and provide support to the Sr. Benefits Specialist in areas like benefits administration and leave management as required.
  • Implement and maintain HR policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance across all levels of the organization.
  • Regularly review and update HR policies to align with changes in labor laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Provide oversight and direction to ensure organizational compliance with federal, state and local legislation pertaining to all team member matters
  • Communicates changes in the organization's team member policies and procedures and ensures that proper compliance is followed
  • Maintain team member handbooks and policies

Employee Relations and Issue Resolution

  • Work closely with the HR Director to handle complex employee relations matters and support managers in resolving workplace issues.
  • Make operational decisions regarding HR processes and policies, ensuring effective communication and resolution of day-to-day employee concerns
  • Act as a trusted advisor to employees and managers, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture
  • Monitors team members satisfaction and attrition levels and develops strategies and team member-centered programs and activities to improve engagement and retention in collaboration with Director of HR Operations
  • Responsible for New Hire, Stay Interview, and Exit Interviews

HR Compliance and Legal Adherence

  • Ensure all HR practices comply with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensures organization’s compliance
  • Manage audits and ensure accurate record-keeping of employee data and HR transactions are captured in our HRIS system

HR Strategy and Process Improvement

  • Contribute to the development and execution of HR strategies to support organizational goals
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to understand and align HR strategies with broader organizational goals and objectives
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance HR efficiency and employee satisfaction
  • Analyze HR metrics and data to provide insights and recommendations for decision-making

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including talent acquisition, payroll, finance, data & applications, schools and department managers, to address HR-related needs and initiatives
  • Act as a liaison between employees and leadership, ensuring open communication and alignment with organizational objectives

Team Member, Community, and Vendor Relations

  • Participates on internal and external committees and special projects and seeks additional responsibilities and relationships
  • Develops and delivers written communications and presentations to communicate concepts related to one or more functional HR areas for leaders; develops and conducts training and presentations in collaboration with Director of HR Operations
  • Develop and maintain a team member database and associated records/digital files for each team member
  • Collaborate with other leaders to ensure OSE and its affiliated corporations are exciting, supportive, and challenging places of employment where all team members become a part of our team and family
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required

  • Agrees to engage in the faith life of our scholars and in collaboration with other team members
  • 5 + years of previous human resources experience including compensation, benefits, compliance, employee relations, training and development
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Extensive experience in operational HR roles, with a proven track record of success in managing day-to-day HR processes
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and other HR-related software
  • Previous experience in a multi-state nonprofit organization, preferred
  • Experience with UKG and Paycor is a plus
  • Experience managing others and managing a team of direct reports
  • Proven leadership skills with well-rounded experience in human resources topics
  • Strong proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Exceptional business acumen with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and ability to establish positive relations
  • Experience managing HR operations in a multi-site environment, preferred

Work Location

This is primarily an on-site role working mostly from our national office located in Waukesha, WI. Remote work flexibility of up to two (2) days per week may be granted with approval from the National Director of HR Operations. However, depending on business needs, in-office attendance may be required up to five days per week.
