Summary

Our client a well-established non-profit with 150 employees is seeking a thoughtful, strategic, and hands-on Human Resources Director to lead and evolve the HR function as a successor to a long-term incumbent. Reporting directly to the Executive Director and serving as a key member of the leadership team, you’ll take full ownership of HR strategy and operations, ensuring that people practices reflect mission and values.

What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the Executive Director and department heads on workforce planning, employee relations, and organizational development
  • Lead the HR team and oversee recruitment, onboarding, benefits, compliance, and performance management
  • Champion a culture of wellbeing, and respect across the agency
  • Own and enhance HR systems, policies, and practices to support a growing team, including modernizing HR tools and technologies.
  • Support leadership with coaching, performance conversations, and change management
  • Guide benefit renewals, leaves of absence, wage scale reviews, and compliance reporting
  • Lead HR communications, culture-building initiatives, and DEIJ programming


What We’re Looking For:

  • 8+ years of full function HR experience, including 3+ in a leadership role
  • Strong understanding of California labor law and nonprofit HR practices
  • Hands-on experience managing employee relations, leaves, and HR systems
  • A collaborative, empathetic, and respect-driven leadership style
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to navigate complex situations with care
  • Bachelor’s degree required; HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR) a plus
