Job Description

You will be the GNC Modeling & Simulation Principal Engineer for our Missiles and Fire Control team. Our team is responsible for developing and applying innovative modeling and simulation solutions to complex technical challenges, and this role will specialize in Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) engineering.

What You Will Be Doing

As the GNC Modeling & Simulation Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and validating complex models and simulations, such as 6-degree-of-freedom simulations and effects-based simulations. You will work with a highly skilled team of systems engineering technologists and algorithm developers to support various contracts and IRADs.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Designing and documenting model and simulation requirements and architecture
  • Developing, verifying, and validating complex models and simulations
  • Evaluating system performance in complex scenarios and environments
  • Supporting ground and flight test efforts, including Hardware-In-The-Loop (HWIL) activities
  • Collaborating with subsystem and software engineers to integrate models and software into simulations

Desired Skills

  • An active U.S. DOD Secret clearance with an investigation date in the last 5 years
  • Advanced proficiency in C++
  • Experience operating in Linux environments
  • Experience with Agile development
  • Experience performing one or more of the following technical GNC assignments:
  • Develop and analyze algorithms such as guidance, navigation, autopilot, inertial tracking, and servo control algorithms
  • Develop and/or verify/validate complex vehicle models and simulations such as missile 6-degree-of-freedom simulations
  • Demonstrated strong math skills in the areas of linear algebra, matrix math, statistics, trigonometry, and coordinate transformations
  • Develop, verify and validate complex Electro Optical / InfraRed and/or Radio Frequency sensor models
  • Ability to perform preflight system performance assessment and post flight verification analyses
  • Experience deploying algorithms that satisfy real-time performance requirements
  • Experience with DevOps/DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines and software version control such as Git

National Pay Statement

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $164,300 - $289,800. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays.
