The Failure Analysis Team's mission is to determine root cause and contributing factors to improve Tesla's products in collaboration with a large cross-section of other engineering teams. Engineers and Technicians on the team are responsible for a wide variety of Vehicle and Energy systems including the existing fleet and new products under development. This is a high-visibility, individual contributor role that requires extensive hands-on failure analysis of electronic systems and components.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, fast-learning individual who will work closely with experienced engineers on analyzing, root causing, and reporting on a variety of materials related failures observed in components across the range of Tesla's products.

* Utilize and operate analytical instruments such as FTIR, SEM/EDS, XRF, TGA, GC/MS, X-ray/CT-Scan, C-SAM, etc. to drive failure analysis investigations
* Apply fundamental materials knowledge of metallics, non-metallics, plastic composites, glasses, ceramics to support Failure Analysis investigations. Follow Process-Structure-Properties/Performance principle
* Prepare reports and data interpretation of technical findings, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and present findings to internal customers
* Responsible for setting up novel sample preparation, advanced analytical method development, and sample analysis in support of Tesla engineering activities
* Drive analytical equipment troubleshooting, maintenance, service, and evaluation/purchasing processes
* Mentor junior staff members on operation, interpretation, maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical Instruments used in FA lab
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive project timelines and goals
* Degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience
* 1-3yrs hands-on experience in a service or research lab or similar environment
* Hands-on experience operating SEM/FIB, 2D X-Ray, CSAM, FTIR, and other similar analytical instruments
* Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new techniques and technologies
* Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, and balance priorities across multiple projects
* Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and work effectively in a team environment
