What To Expect
The Factory Field Quality Engineer will work as a member of Tesla’s Quality Engineering organization. This role acts as a team lead who investigates quality issues first-hand, directs the day to day of technicians/data analysts while serving as a mentor, and drives cross-functional teams to solve issues. The QE will also provide summary reports to top leadership, monitor countermeasure effectiveness over the long-term, and close the feedback loop with field employees by presenting (virtually) in front of large audiences.
What You'll Do
Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams to drive process and product improvements; use of QA methodologies to manage and facilitate issue resolution including root cause investigations and the development, implementation and monitoring of effective corrective and preventive actionsLead and mentor technicians on how to clean field data, analyze trends, and clearly present results Establish and maintain quality performance metricsDevelop and implement quality standards as part of the Tesla Quality System to assure products meet expectations of our target customersSupport the development of product specifications and tolerances, design and process FMEAs and DVAsEstablish and maintain control plans and inspection standards to assure critical features are controlled through the assembly/production processesLead/facilitate review and disposition of discrepant materials identified for control of nonconforming productMaintain a clean and organized work area; follow daily housekeeping and 5S standardsPromote and maintain a culture and attitude of continuous improvement, working within the Tesla team to make it more efficient, safer and an enjoyable place to work
What You'll Bring
Degree in Engineering or equivalent experienceQuality systems experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive preferred)Specific training and demonstrated success in applying quality problem solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, etc. Experience with broad variety of measurement and inspection techniquesExcellent oral, written and presentation communication skillsAbility, willingness to travel domestically, and internationally (5% to 10%)May be required to support extended hours based on business and production needs

Expected Compensation
$72,000 - $162,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
