Summary

The Factory Field Quality Engineer will work as a member of Tesla's Quality Engineering organization. This role acts as a team lead who investigates quality issues first-hand, directs the day to day of technicians/data analysts while serving as a mentor, and drives cross-functional teams to solve issues. The QE will also provide summary reports to top leadership, monitor countermeasure effectiveness over the long-term, and close the feedback loop with field employees by presenting (virtually) in front of large audiences. * Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams to drive process and product improvements; use of QA methodologies to manage and facilitate issue resolution including root cause investigations and the development, implementation and monitoring of effective corrective and preventive actions * Lead and mentor technicians on how to clean field data, analyze trends, and clearly present results * Establish and maintain quality performance metrics * Develop and implement quality standards as part of the Tesla Quality System to assure products meet expectations of our target customers * Support the development of product specifications and tolerances, design and process FMEAs and DVAs * Establish and maintain control plans and inspection standards to assure critical features are controlled through the assembly/production processes * Lead/facilitate review and disposition of discrepant materials identified for control of nonconforming product * Maintain a clean and organized work area; follow daily housekeeping and 5S standards * Promote and maintain a culture and attitude of continuous improvement, working within the Tesla team to make it more efficient, safer and an enjoyable place to work * Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience * Quality systems experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive preferred) * Specific training and demonstrated success in applying quality problem solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, etc. * Experience with broad variety of measurement and inspection techniques * Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills * Ability, willingness to travel domestically, and internationally (5% to 10%) * May be required to support extended hours based on business and production needs
