Valor is looking for a Director of Performance Science to help shape the future of human movement optimization. You’ll lead biomechanical research, business development, and product innovation efforts across a fast-moving sports tech platform used by elite athletic programs.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll bridge science, technology, and performance with real-world impact — helping athletes move better, perform longer, and stay healthier.
Responsibilities
- Mentor staff and develop internal performance science capabilities across strength & conditioning, biomechanics, and rehab
- Interpret and translate biomechanical data into performance and injury mitigation insights
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to enhance metric accuracy and scientific rigor
- Lead outreach efforts with strength coaches, PTs, and athletic trainers to refine use cases and drive adoption
- Contribute to research design and partnership opportunities with universities, teams, and clinical groups
- Represent Valor at conferences, workshops, and client engagements when needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in one of the following:
- Exercise Science
- High-Performance Sport
- Kinesiology
- Athletic Training
- Physical Therapy
- 8+ years of experience in strength & conditioning, performance science, or athletic rehab
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS – NSCA)
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a relevant field (or near completion)
- 10+ years of applied experience across collegiate, professional, or Olympic sport settings
- Experience leading interdisciplinary teams or startup science teams
- Publications or formal research experience in sports science or biomechanics
- Familiarity with motion capture systems, sensor tech, or biomechanics software
Travel Expectations
- Up to weekly travel within 300 miles of Austin
- Occasional travel across the U.S.
- Occasional international travel
