Summary

Job Responsibilities

  • Engaging Incident, Request, Change, Problem, and other Service Management processes as
  • appropriate.
  • Installation, configuration, migrations, and management of databases systems against best practices.
  • Effectively maintain the database systems for high availability and reliability where possible.
  • Ensuring cloud-based systems are maintained effectively and secured following best practices.
  • Ensuring all database systems are secure and recoverable, adhering to relevant policies.
  • Perform routine backups and recovery, including testing of recovery and backup processes.
  • Maintaining and contributing towards the Knowledgebase.
  • Manage and monitor the availability and performance of database systems.
  • Undertake SQL and DBMS implementations, configurations, tuning and upgrades.
  • Assisting teams with code review and schema design.
  • Maintain documentation and information as required for technical and audit purposes.
  • Act as an escalation point, collaborate and mentor other team members when required.
  • Assist Application Developers, and other staff, with their database related needs when required.
  • Identifying and raising improvement opportunities.
  • Assisting with project activities as required.
  • Always adhere to and role model the Company values & policies.
  • Take reasonable care of the health and safety of yourself and others, and report hazards and incidents.
  • Participate in annual PDR process and work to achieve objectives.
  • Comply with Company policies and procedures and legislative requirements.
  • Escalating customer feedback to the IT Operations Manager.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with our customers.

Non-Negotiable Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working in both team-oriented and autonomous work environments.
  • ITIL - Incident, Problem, Change, Release, Configuration management.
  • Expert knowledge with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Excellent knowledge of database backup and recovery methodology.
  • Excellent knowledge of database performance, optimisation, and tuning.
  • Good knowledge of writing T-SQL.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of server operating systems.
  • Experience of SSIS and SSRS.
  • Experience configuring, maintaining, and fine-tuning third party monitoring tools.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, or other cloud solutions.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to multitask and still maintain attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written.

  • Experience with PowerShell.
  • Experience with MySQL
  • Experience with configuration and maintenance of High Availability technologies.
  • Experience in implementing, maintaining, and testing Disaster Recovery objectives.
  • Technical document writing
