Job Overview


The Estimator is responsible for developing and maintaining detailed construction estimates across all components of major Power utility projects. These include materials, engineering, permitting, environmental considerations, labor, and equipment. The role requires a strong understanding of utility construction and a collaborative approach to achieving cost-effective results.


Key Responsibilities

  • Estimate Development: Prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates across all project elements.
  • Team Support: Assist junior estimators in applying best practices and refining estimates.
  • Scope Validation: Confirm complete project scope with relevant teams.
  • Risk Analysis: Identify cost risks and incorporate proper contingencies.
  • Estimate Review: Conduct quality assurance reviews of peer estimates.
  • Cross-functional Coordination: Work with Operations, Engineering, Planning, and Construction.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Present and explain estimates to leadership and project teams.
  • Process Improvement: Use project data to refine estimating methods and tools.
  • Cost Tracking: Support standard work cost practices and maintain relevant databases.
  • Tool Oversight: Maintain estimating dashboards and tracking systems.
  • Policy Adherence: Contribute to the maintenance of procedures and cost standards.
  • Standards Alignment: Ensure estimates follow current Power utility construction protocols.


Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Accounting, Project Management, or a related field.


Experience:

  • 6+ years in estimating, engineering, project management, or construction.
  • 3+ years in Power utility projects.


Technical Proficiency:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
  • Familiarity with SAP and IBM Maximo preferred.


Expertise: Solid understanding of utility cost estimation principles and practices.


Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication.


Mindset: Analytical thinker with a proactive, team-oriented approach.
