Summary

The Controls Hardware Design Engineer I will report to Controls Hardware Design Lead in Bastian Controls Division. A Controls Design Engineer works with other Bastian Controls employees as well as customers and suppliers to provide detailed designs for special equipment in the material handling industry, primarily focused on electrical controls panels and power distribution. The process involves understanding the customer’s goals and objectives and developing smart engineered solutions to meet these goals. Bastian’s goal is to help our customers compete in their markets by providing the best material handling solutions and technology.

Job Functions

• Ensure projects are executed in the most effective manner regarding time, cost (budget) and function.
• AutoCAD Electrical expert, including BOM generation, terminal strip layout, circuit design, and block creation
• Ability to contribute to team’s continuous improvement effort and standardizations
• Work on variety of engineering projects - including material handling projects & research and development projects.
• Work with Engineers, Leads, and Managers to provide robust electrical equipment designs within the time required by project schedules. 
• Clear communication with team and the shop on issues that arise. 
• Work well with others on the Bastian Controls team. 
• Follow our QMS as applicable
• Follow our corporate level policies
• Develop designs for material handling related equipment from concept to detailed fabrication drawings.
• Research and design of everyday projects as well as future pure R&D projects. 
• Help resolve engineering issues as they arise by collaborating closely with engineers, vendors and the shop.
  
  

Preferred Skills And Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Design
• 1-3 years of experience.
• Strong electrical design aptitude. 
• Strong technical drawing skills, especially in AutoCAD family of software. 
• Extremely computer literate with general Microsoft Office products. 
• Ability to produce electrical panel schematic drawings from mechanical layout and BOM efficiently.
• Positive attitude, able to handle tense situations that arise
• Team player, able to take as well as give direction
