ROLE DESCRIPTION:

We have an immediate need for a contract Sr. Technical Writer.

The Sr. Technical Writer will develop high-quality technical documentation for wireless networking hardware products which include:

• User manuals
• Configuration guides
• Hardware installation guides
• QuickStart guides
• Network Management guides
• Command line interface (CLI) and Application Programming Interface (API) guides
• Other customer-facing documentation as may be required.

The optimal candidate will have some domain knowledge in and have written end-user technical documentation for hardware networking products such as: Wi-Fi Access Points, Fixed/Mobile Wireless Access Equipment, Layer 2/3 Networking Switches/Routers or testers, 4G/5G wireless access hardware.

We are optimally looking for someone who has “been there, done that” and can hit the ground running or at least have some domain knowledge and is a very fast learner.

With this hybrid role, the candidate must be able to commute to and work in our Santa Clara, CA facility (likely 1 day per week or more frequently as may be needed).

HOURS:              Approx: 10-30 Hours a week

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create impactful customer-facing technical product documentation describing how to install, configure, use, and manage Airvine’s wireless networking hardware products (WaveTunnel and WaveCore) and device/network management software.

Acquire in-depth and comprehensive product-specific and domain knowledge quickly through hands-on experience with products (hardware/software) and interaction with subject matter experts such as software/hardware developers, QA testers, Sales Engineering, and Product Managers and anticipate the user’s information needs.

Review and/or copyedit existing customer documentation or engineer-developed content while determining the clearest and most logical and concise way to present it for the greatest end-user comprehension.

Follow and/or establish Airvine document formats and templates employing good internal documentation practices and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, technical writing, journalism, or a related field.

Working/domain technical knowledge and experience writing technical documents with the following:

• Wireless Networking Products (ex. WiFi, 5G/LTE, wireless transport solutions)
• Network switching/routing/testing products & Layer 2 networking concepts
• Experience documenting complex hardware products containing strong software content.
• 5+ years of experience writing technical documentation in a professional setting for technical audiences.
• Must have a laptop and editing software tools (MS Word, Graphics, etc…).
• Must be a resourceful, efficient, and creative self-starter who can write about complex topics, often with minimal or vague guidance or instruction, often under tight time constraints.
• Ability to be “hands-on” with the product and can write and document by using the product.
• Demonstrated experience creating, managing, and modifying technical diagrams and graphics, and integrating them into user documentation.
• We currently use MS Word, but experience with other publishing tools, document management systems, and web/HTML is a plus.
• Experience in the translation of documents into other languages (i.e., Spanish, AI tools, etc…) is a plus.
