Summary

JOB TITLE: Coatings Application Engineer

Axalta Coating Systems is seeking an Application Engineer to join our Industrial Global Building Products Group in Fridley, Minnesota. This Application Engineer role will focus on application of waterborne coatings designed for exterior building products. This role will support coating application needs of existing customers and support Axalta R&D team during new product development. The role of Application Engineer will report into the Exterior Building Products Team leader and indirectly to the senior Application Engineer at the Fridley site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct customer line surveys and publish written reports to customers and internal team.
  • Partner with R&D during new product development process to conduct validation testing prior to customer validation testing.
  • Conduct new product validation testing at target customers.
  • On-site application and product support during new customer commercialization.
  • With equipment vendors and customers, design and validate new line configurations to deliver customer specified results.
  • Provide advanced technical direction and assistance to customers on application of all applicable product lines; work with complex customer lines on a project basis providing expert advice, assistance, and trouble shooting. .
  • Operate independently under limited supervision.
  • Travel required: approx. 50% to customer and vendor sites with potential for more depending upon project requirements.


MUST HAVE:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • BS or higher degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years coatings application experience.
  • Proficient in coating application knowledge and technique over a wide range of equipment and coating technology.
  • Successful in line design with equipment vendors and customers.
  • Fundamental understanding of waterborne coatings technology.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), problem solving capabilities and the ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time with possible international travel.
  • Able to occasionally lift and handle 50 lbs.
