Allied is looking for an Specialist, Asset and Environmental Sustainability to join our Sustainability team in Toronto.

In the role of Specialist, Asset and Environmental Sustainability, you will support and elevate our national building certification program and national environmental performance programs (Energy, Carbon, Water, and Waste). This, in turn, allows Allied to provide distinctive urban environments in a manner that is sustainable and conducive to human wellness and creativity.


Asset and Environmental Sustainability at Allied

As part of the Asset and Environmental Sustainability team, this role will work closely with the multi-disciplinary teams at Allied to implement our national building certification strategy, as well as a diverse range of energy and sustainability initiatives, including Allied’s Net Zero Carbon Plan and Climate Resiliency Plan.


In this role, the ideal candidate will work in our highly collaborative team settings to promote, identify, evaluate and implement energy and sustainability initiatives, creating positive and material impacts to our national workspace portfolio and communities in which we serve. The ideal candidate is expected to receive on-the-job training and be supported to remain up to date on industry’s best practices related to energy management and sustainable building operations, regulatory requirements, incentive programs, trends and emerging technologies.


What will you do?

  • Execute Allied’s National Building Certification Strategy and facilitate the building certification process under the guidance from senior team members.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the building energy and sustainability field; provide advice, guidance, educational and training sessions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with our internal teams and third-party partners to identify and implement energy and sustainability initiatives, tasks include, but are not limited to, energy, carbon, and water data analysis, environmental program strategic planning, retrofit business case development, environmental sustainability target settings, managing energy and waste audits and retrofit projects, conduct and/or facilitate tenant engagement and user workshops, etc.
  • Support the implementation of Allied’s Net Zero Carbon Plan.
  • Support our Corporate Planning and Sustainability team on annual ESG reporting and report publication; assist with GHG emissions, energy, water and waste data collection, compilation, and aggregation and relevant KPIs.
  • Ensure compliance of local and provincial utility regulations and requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


What are we looking for?

  • 0-3 years of work experiences in a related role and/or similar responsibilities
  • Undergraduate degree in relevant environmental and sustainability programs and demonstrated continuous learning
  • Familiarity with Building Certification Systems (I.e., LEED, BOMA, Fitwel, etc.)
  • People orientated, excellent teamwork and relationship management skills
  • Passion in building energy efficiency, sustainability and certification
  • Ability to multi-task and manage conflicting priorities
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Self-starter; works well independently under minimal supervision
  • Ability to travel within Canada, as required


Would be an asset:

  • Fluency in French
  • LEED GA or AP accreditation
  • Work experience with building certification (LEED, BOMA, Fitwel, etc)
  • Familiarity with building design and operation
  • Knowledge and experience in managing ASHRAE level I and II Energy Audits
  • Experience with Energy Star Portfolio Manager or similar benchmarking tool
  • Knowledge of ESG reporting frameworks (I.e., GRESB, GRI, SASG, TCFD, UNSDG)
