Position Overview -

Working directly with our Development staff, the Intern will receive exposure to the affordable housing development process. The Intern will provide a broad range of support activities to the Development staff including conducting research, sourcing new development sites, construction management, and construction and permanent loan financing.

Compensation And Benefits -

The compensation range is $24.00 an hour.

Essential Position Responsibilities -

  • Assist in the preparation of letters of intent and purchase and sale agreements.
  • Follow up with consultants to obtain necessary reports and studies.
  • Help Project Manager prepare applications for acquisition, predevelopment, construction and permanent financing.
  • Assist with relocation notices.
  • Assist in the selection and oversight of architects, engineers, consultants, general contractors and other professionals.
  • Help to coordinate the closing of construction financing and the conversion to permanent financing.
  • Assist with structuring fundraising campaigns and strategies
  • Assist with fundraising events
  • Assist with grant and foundation research, outreach and follow-up

Other Duties -

  • Assist with efforts to make Community Corp properties environmentally sustainable and accessible.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills -

  • General knowledge and understanding of real estate development concepts.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret financing regulations and legal documents.
  • Ability to prioritize a heavy workload and meet critical deadlines.
  • Flexible and adaptable to work plan changes and organizational changes.
  • Well organized and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word, and the ability to learn additional software programs as needed.

Education and Experience -

Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Architecture, Public Administration or related field required. Master’s Degree completed or in progress in Planning, Real Estate, Business or related field preferred. 1 to 2 years of related work in real estate finance, affordable housing or community development.

Physical Requirements -

This position requires the ability to sit and use office equipment and computers for the majority of the workday. Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds. Must be able to drive to worksites and inspect and survey worksites. See travel requirements below.

Work Environment -

This position requires the employee to work in both the office environment and outdoors to inspect and visit project sites.

Travel Requirements -

This position requires travel within the region, including but not limited to development sites, other municipalities, consultant offices and government offices. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurance as required by law.
