Assistant Controller

Cybersecurity SaaS – PE-Backed | Remote-First with East Coast Access Preferred

Location: Remote (Ideally East Coast or commutable to Baltimore)

Reports To: CFO

District Partners has been exclusively retained to lead the search for a highly motivated Assistant Controller on behalf of a cutting-edge, venture-backed SaaS company in the industrial cybersecurity and secure access space. With recent Series A funding and a long capital runway, this company is at a key inflection point—scaling fast and preparing for audit, M&A, and long-term growth.

Our client serves major industrials and government agencies, including defense and energy sector leaders. Compliance and secure infrastructure are at the core of their mission.

Why This Role is Different:

  • Work directly with a proven CFO who also plays a key operational role in the business
  • Be the driving force behind GAAP and ASC 606 implementation
  • Shape close processes, KPIs, and the foundation for future FP&A integration
  • Collaborate frequently with the CEO and operations teams, especially if local to the Mid-Atlantic region
  • Contribute to audit readiness and be a central figure in future M&A or financing events

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead implementation of ASC 606 and establish GAAP-compliant accounting practices
  • Build audit-ready financials and act as primary liaison for external audit partners
  • Manage the monthly close and create scalable reporting packages
  • Develop internal policies, controls, and documentation
  • Support revenue accounting clean-up and help implement better SaaS metrics
  • Provide insights to the CFO and board through financial analysis and reporting
  • Partner with operations and the CEO to embed finance deeper into company-wide decision making

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance (GPA 3.7+)
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • 5+ years of experience in public accounting and/or in-house corporate accounting
  • Previous exposure to technology or SaaS business models
  • Demonstrated experience with revenue recognition and ASC 606
  • Excel fluency and ability to build repeatable models and reports
  • Proven ability to thrive in less structured, entrepreneurial environments
  • Bonus: Experience working with audit preparation or interfacing with auditors

Work Culture & Philosophy:

We value people who bring more to the table than just their resumes. We’re building a team where strengths are leveraged, not siloed. You won’t be expected to work weekends—our leadership believes the more you thrive outside of work, the more effective you'll be inside it. This is a cyclical role without frantic month-end crunches and with ample time to build infrastructure the right way.

Location Notes:

This is a remote-first role, but we value occasional in-person facetime—especially with our CEO and Operations teams based near Baltimore. Candidates located within driving distance are preferred but not required.
