We are currently working on an Assistant Controller search on behalf of a long-standing client with a reputation for excellence in the healthcare/pharmaceutical industry. This organization is known for its collaborative, people-first culture and stable leadership team—particularly a well-respected hiring manager who has built a high-performing finance group over the past several years.

Based in Mississauga in a hybrid role, the Assistant Controller plays a key part in the financial operations of the Canadian legal entities. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this individual will oversee core accounting activities, ensure compliance and reporting accuracy, and contribute to process improvement and strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate is both technically strong and able to manage a team within a complex, matrixed finance structure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead full-cycle accounting and general ledger management
• Oversee cash and treasury functions, including forecasting, reconciliations, and intercompany payments
• Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
• Coordinate with external auditors and lead the audit process
• Collaborate with business unit Controllers and regional finance teams
• Manage and develop a team within the Controlling group
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, corporate policies, and regulatory requirements
• Drive process improvement and support business decision-making through financial insights

Qualifications:

• CPA designation (CA, CMA, CGA, or CPA)
• Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in corporate accounting
• Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting, internal controls, and external audit processes
• Experience working in SAP or similar ERP environments (SAP strongly preferred)
• Advanced Excel skills and comfort with large volumes of data
• Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills
• Prior experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing is an asset
• Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate across departments
