Summary

An Application Support Engineer in an AWS environment with Splunk expertise is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, performance, and availability of applications hosted on AWS.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Use Splunk to analyze logs, monitor system performance, and troubleshoot application issues.
  • Incident Management: Investigate and resolve application failures, latency, and performance issues in AWS services.
  • AWS Infrastructure Support: Work with services like EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, CloudWatch, etc., to maintain application stability.
  • Automation & Scripting: Use Python, Bash, or PowerShell to automate recurring tasks and improve efficiency.
  • Deployment & CI/CD Support: Assist in application deployments using Jenkins, AWS CodeDeploy, or other DevOps tools.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure applications meet security standards using IAM, Security Groups, and encryption.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with developers, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to optimize application performance and scalability.


Educational Background

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Splunk Certified Admin).


Technical Skills

Splunk:

  • Proficiency in Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Cloud.
  • Experience with creating and managing dashboards, reports, and alerts.
  • Strong knowledge of SPL (Search Processing Language).
  • Familiarity with data ingestion, indexing, and data modeling in Splunk.


AppDynamics:

  • Expertise in application performance monitoring using AppDynamics.
  • Ability to configure and manage application and business transaction monitoring.
  • Experience with custom instrumentation and alerting.


Grafana:

  • Proficient in creating and managing dashboards in Grafana.
  • Experience with data sources supported by Grafana (e.g., Prometheus, InfluxDB).
  • Knowledge of visualization best practices and performance metrics.


AWS CloudWatch:

  • Strong understanding of AWS services and architecture.
  • Experience in configuring CloudWatch metrics, logs, and dashboards.
  • Knowledge of setting up alarms and notifications based on CloudWatch data.


Analytical Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify issues and provide insights.
  • Ability to interpret complex data and present findings clearly.


Experience

  • Professional Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience in monitoring and performance management.
  • Experience in a DevOps or SRE role is a plus.
  • Project Management:
  • Experience in managing monitoring tools within a production environment.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies.

  • Communication:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.


Attention to Detail:

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.


Additional Skills (Preferred)

  • Familiarity with container orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Understanding of ITIL or other service management frameworks.
