Summary

Sword Services Greece S.A. is looking for an Application Support Engineer/System Administrator. The successful candidates will work in a multicultural environment supporting our core business in large Information Systems for the European Commission. What you will do...

  • Produce and keep up-to-date the relevant technical documentation;
  • All tasks associated with setting up or supervising the setting up (and eventual decommissioning) of the application management technical solution (including setting up monitoring and diagnostic tools);
  • Implement or contribute to the implementation of monitoring for business applications and hardware (e.g. port monitoring, network traffic and entries in log files;
  • Detection and immediate restore of applications in case of unavailability;
  • Construction, development, maintenance, and operation of our IT infrastructure with a focus on Linux environments
  • Regular middleware patching, including security patches and filesystem management (LVM, partitioning).
  • Perform deployments to application environments;
  • Perform technical impact assessment for change requests;
  • Configuration of monitoring, log analysis and ticketing systems to cover the needs of the application environment;
  • Development and maintenance of automation components (e.g. Jenkins scripts);
  • General administration & housekeeping activities.


What is your experience...

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or another relevant field;
  • Certification in the area of technologies relevant to the tasks;
  • Knowledge of ITIL Foundation especially on event, incident, problem and change management;
  • At least 6 years of experience in managing bespoke applications (building environments, deploying applications, troubleshooting incidents, monitoring);
  • At least 6 years of hands-on experience falling into the following range:
  • Proven experience as a Linux Systems Administrator or in a similar role within IT support - Extensive knowledge on Linux environments
  • Design, installation, and support of Linux-based and heterogeneous environments
  • Expertise with bash scripting for task automation and operational efficiency
  • Deep understanding of Linux kernel, system internals, tuning, performance optimization, and debugging
  • Knowledge in managing services , package installation and updates using yum, apt, and dnf.
  • Databases: Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL;
  • Web and application servers/containers: Apache Tomcat, JBoss, Wildfly, Apache HTTP server, Microsoft IIS;
  • Collaborative platforms: Confluence, Remedy, JIRA, Azure DevOps, MS SharePoint;
  • Monitoring and analysis for Linux/Windows systems;
  • Basic knowledge in deployment automation based on a complete application delivery tool chain (e.g. Chef, Jenkins, Git, Maven, Nexus);
  • TCP/IP network understanding for supporting (when needed) the troubleshooting of network-related application issues.
