This approach is preferred by time-pressed hiring managers as they can quickly read about your key skills and accomplishments in a clear and concise way. Stick to no more than five key points as a long list of bullet points will lose impact and recruiters may simply zone out.

An effective approach when creating the cover letter body is to consider the following areas:

  1. Why you. Outline your marketing background, with particular focus on key achievements, skills, and expertise. Using the job description as your guide, showcase what you have done and what you have achieved. Try to weave in both hard (industry-specific) skills and soft skills, such as critical-thinking, communication, and team building skills. For example, you could highlight a notable marketing campaign you successfully delivered in collaboration with cross-functional teams and how this exceeded your client’s expectations.  

  2. Why here. Companies are looking for marketing professionals who are passionate about joining their organization. Research your target company’s website and social media platforms so you can connect your expertise to their vision and values via your cover letter. 

  3. Why now. What has prompted you to make this move in your career? Maybe you’re passionate about smart content and native marketing and the company is a trailblazer in this field. Conveying this information via your cover letter will highlight your passion and commitment for the job opening.

Make sure to follow directions from the job advertisement. Typically employers will provide instructions on how to submit your resume and cover letter such as sending the documents in a specific file format or using specific job reference details. How to write a marketing cover letter closing

The closing section of your marketing cover letter needs to persuade the hiring manager to give you a shot at an interview. This is also a golden opportunity to deliver a strong finish to your cover letter. This doesn’t need to be a long paragraph (a couple sentences is fine). Here’s some inspiration:

  • Focus on the added value you can bring to your prospective employer. Demonstrate that you can adapt your skills to benefit the organization by linking a relevant accomplishment on your resume to one of the key goals or objectives of the role. 

  • Include a Call to Action. Encourage them to take your application to the next level: “I look forward to speaking with you and learning more about the (Position Title) position and (Company Name). Until then, thank you for your time and consideration.”
